I have been filled with so much inspiration, excitement, and perspective from the last couple of weeks, s/o S.Lew who encouraged me to do a concept like this, I had many different versions and visions, but this is what it has manifested into, a blog I guess. To all reading, I give credit where credit is due, and SL gets all the credit on this one. I’m new to the written blog concept but I have done vlogs for as long as I can remember, although they mostly remain private, for my own reflection, its always fun to try something new … *We all start somewhere*. This is a first attempt at something new in an “organized” fashion. I tend to be private and selective, but I am giving myself the chance to let others see the light of this life. Welcome! Treat this as your monthly read and catch up on what I have been up to. It will certainly evolve, but for now, you are unofficially an accountability partner and don’t worry, there will always be something for you at the end.
Since I work in Finance now, I guess I’ll give you a recap of Q1 .. Equity markets remain optimistic with – KIDDING, I am NOT Wall Street Journal.
As I wrapped up my first 6 months of moving to a new city .. New York City .. post grad I have some high highs and low highs (it’s about perspective guys). My career change has been quite .. interesting. I feel like I have a grasp on what is going on, but always searching for more, understand there is so much more to learn. *Be a sponge lay, sponge*
Life
This isn’t quite my first time away from home, but it’s definitely the farthest with the largest lack of connections in the area. It taught me the importance of community and relationships, of which I have certainly found community but relationships have been tricky. Coming from a group of people that I spent basically 8-12 hours a day with, to only being able to FaceTime a handful here and there gives me gratitude for the relationships that I do have. I was excited to spend a weekend in Waco celebrating senior night for the 2024 class and an informal alumni meet up with my senior class, minus 1. Looks like I’ll need to start the invites now for next year, maybe not in Waco though. I also visited a very close friend who has had an exciting life milestone and I was grateful to just give her a hug definitely a long time, no see. Seeing coaches and other close friends sort of grounded me in the fast paced city life that I have been living for the past 9 months now. I look forward to the slow life .. not now though, eventually.
As for today, March 31, Happy Easter! I tried to grill outside on the rooftop because it was so nice out, but I was quickly humbled as I have ZERO outdoor grilling supplies, so I vetoed that plan. I have recently had this desire to get back into cooking more, I dream of dinner parties and gatherings but currently limited on space as NYC studios aren’t very generous. For now, I can just perfect my single serving proportions. I also spent some time this weekend volunteering at the local urban farm! I learned about composting and how urban farm crop planning is decided. I am looking forward to engaging with urban farms in the city and finding other volunteer organizations to help out with. Fingers crossed, I might have my own garden bed a couple of blocks from where I live!
Career
I have had my fair share in dabbling in entrepreneurship ventures, and being in the city has only taken me closer to the feeling and dream of having to call something mines. Almost everyone knows someone that knows someone who has had a success in entrepreneurship. When I first came to the city, I was very adamant on connecting with like minded individuals who are driven and motivated, but also just really awesome people. Spoiler, I did!!! I am immersing myself in my current role and being the learning as much as I can. Of course, I also have some other outside things I am working on, but those take time and thanks to the awesome people I have met, one in particular reminds me to be grateful for the job security that I DO have right now (thank you) So .. sorry no startups anytime soon for me, I think. But all the ideas that do come to mind .. they are written down.
Now what?
Thinking about NYC Marathon Charity
BU network project coming to life
Falling in love with my Journey
Being the biggest fan for my people and their ventures.
Strengthening the relationships that I do have right now – Thankful for the new ones that also come along
Holding onto the excitement and joy for what life has to offer
For you –
Squeeze all of the juice out of this fun life, life is great, you are great, go concur the world!
